Dr. Willig is a Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he obtained his undergraduate degree in chemistry. He attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he obtained his MD degree with honors. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine at NYU and the Manhattan VA hospitals, he completed a Residency in Ophthalmology at Lenox Hill Hospital. He continued his training with a Fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis (inflammatory diseases of the eye) at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the NYS and Long Island Ophthalmologic Societies.
Prior to joining The Center for Eye Care, Dr. Willig was in private practice on Long Island for 25 years. He is the former Director of the Uveitis Service at North Shore–LIJ Health System and the Queens Hospital Center. He has taught there, and received an award for outstanding contributions to Resident Education. He also has had teaching appointments at the Nassau University Medical Center and Hofstra University School of Medicine.
Dr. Willig is currently on the staff of Good Samaritan and Southside Hospitals. He has been named as one of America's Top Ophthalmologist. Along with his considerable experience and expertise, Dr. Willig brings to our Center a sincere care and concern for all of his patients.
