It can be said with confidence that over 90% of eye injuries within the workplace can be prevented with the appropriate protective eyewear. Depending on the nature of some jobs such as manufacturing, welding, auto maintenance and repair, electrical work and carpentry, working conditions within those environments include multiple eye hazards. Industrial workers are at the most risk due to a variety of injury factors including chemicals or airborne foreign objects such as wood or metal chips and splashes of grease and oil.

The major reasons workers experience eye injuries while on the job is because they either are not wearing eye protection while in a hazardous environment or they are wearing inadequate eye protection. In fact, a Bureau of Labor Statistics survey of workers who have suffered injuries to their eyes revealed that three in five were not wearing eye protection at the time of the accident. Their reasoning was that they did not believe wearing protective eyewear was necessary.
