Use It, Don’t Lose It

Many people have little idea as to the extent of their vision benefits…copays, HSAs, FSAs, coverage for eye exams, glasses, etc. Those full-color pamphlets handed out by HR or insurance representatives often end up stuffed in a drawer and seldom referenced again. Ironically, while a third of Americans require glasses or corrective lenses, vision care is sometimes overlooked. But it can be a valuable addition to your overall healthcare coverage.

Do you have an Health Savings Account (HSA)? A Flexible Spending Account (FSA)? Any kind of vision plan? If you have any kind of optical coverage, you might reach the end of the year with unused and forfeited benefits.

Typical benefit plans have a use-it-or-lose-it component to their coverage. Employees and/or employers contribute to these plans on a pre-tax basis, so not using them to their fullest extent results in leaving tax-incentivized benefits unused. If you examine your coverage, you may be surprised to find out you have coverage that will evaporate when the year ends.

Depending on your provider, you might be entitled to an eye examination, an extra pair of eyeglasses, a pair of prescription sunglasses or replacement contact lenses. Your HSA account might even help you cover the cost of accessories such as cleaning products, microfiber cloths, neck straps etc.

Give us a call before the end of the year to schedule your annual eye exam. We will confirm your benefits with your insurance provider. Don’t forgo your optical health or your hard-earned money.
